Tres cantos, Spain

Tres cantos Spain

Tres Cantos is a Spanish town in the province and Autonomous Community of Madrid, located 22 km north of the capital. It enjoys a privileged location and a very high-quality natural environment, thanks to its proximity to Monte de El Pardo to the south and the Viñuelas area. Designed as a “satellite city” of Madrid by urban planners as recently as the 1970s, it is the youngest incorporated municipality in the Community of Madrid, with a population of around 41,065 (2012 National Statistics). Tres Cantos was Spain’s candidate host city for the 2018 Ryder Cup, although local residents showed little support for the bid, and the event was ultimately awarded to Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in France. The municipal public library, “Lope de Vega”, serves as one of the town’s main cultural centres. The Tres Cantos website (http://www.trescantos.es/web/index.php/) provides extensive information on local activities, as well as details of shops, cinemas and sports facilities. The town is laid out in three main phases, each made up of different sectors and streets. Street names are generally linked to the theme or name of the sector they belong to.
